Should Smoking Be Illegal
Introduction/Thesis Statement: People who smoke should have the right to smoke if that is their desire. The Bill of Rights states that as an American we have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. For some people, smoking makes them happy and calms them down in stressful situations. As an American it should be your choice as to whether or not you smoke. Our forefathers based our constitution on our basic human rights. Increasingly vocal ââ¬Å"smokers'-rightsâ⬠groups, allied with some civil libertarians, have decried the work of governmental ââ¬Å"nanniesâ⬠that ââ¬Å"refuse to treat smokers as adults. â⬠Clark, C. S. Jefferson City, Missouri just recently passed its own smoking ban, which is city wide. This means that any citizen that might want to smoke will have to hide somewhere to do it. Apparently the smokers, were absent during this election. Making smoking illegal will only have even more far reaching consequences. Small businesses, particularly restaurants, hotels and transit providers, have warned us that smoking bans will cost them the clientele that sustains their livelihoods. Due to current city ordinances in Columbia, Missouri that have banned smoking, there have been at least fifteen local businesses that have gone out of business. News Tribune (2010), Smoking Ban Passes Anti- smoking groups have also been accused of feathering their own nests, spending more on salaries and fund raising than on research. It has been accused of being an industry that provides ââ¬Å"employment for an army of smoker-bashers, and for many, the opportunity to amass personal fortunes,â⬠writes Fred Phillis, a Trumbull, Conn. , public relations consultant and smokersââ¬â¢-rights activist. There is no denying the health risks that are involved when someone smokes. There are over 400,000 deaths per year that have been directly linked to smoking. This should still be our choice to make, just as it is our choice about whether to watch TV or not. While there have been health issues related to second hand smoke, we cannot lose sight of the fact that, they can always go somewhere else to sit. Non-smokers do not have to sit by smokers. There is much to be said about not smoking, my own grandchildren are allergic to cigarette smoke. Also the University of North Carolina researchers reported that children of smokers showed a 38 percent higher chance of ear infections Clark, C. S. (1992, December 4). Crackdown on smoking. It is still our choice to not smoke around our grandchildren, someone didnââ¬â¢t tell us not to. In the classic mold of social scapegoating, smokers have been stigmatized, ghettoized and threatened with cultural annihilation. ââ¬Å"Smokers are being made to feel like social pariahs,â⬠declares John F. Banzhaf III, a George Washington University law professor who founded the anti-smoking group Action on Smoking and Health (ASH). Conclusion/Closing: ââ¬Å"What we are also losing in this whole debate is science, which has become political,â⬠says Walker Merryman, a vice president of The Tobacco Institute. Those are the business people who hav e to try to operate when their economic life is threatened? â⬠In conclusion I have but one thought ââ¬Å"Give me a place, even if it's outside. But you just can't legislate it out of my life. ââ¬

The parable describes the story of an injured man beaten by r obbers on the side of the road. Two men, a priest and a levite, pass down the road and avoid him, while a third man, a Samaritan helps the man recover. The priest and the levite both had a moral obligation and were duty-bound to assist the injured man, yet chose not to, and this is the exact situation the soldiers and police officers in the boat were in. They too had a moral obligation and were duty-bound to help assist the residents of New Orleans following the hurricane. It was headed directly towards them.â⬠(Eggers 100-101). Drawbacks of outsourcing IT functionality. One of the disadvantage is risk exposing of the confidential data: when an organization outsources some of their information functionalities they will involve in the risk especially if they are exposing their data to the third party. Another disadvantage is that of synchronizing of the deliverables: In the event that one does not choose the right vendor for outsourcing, there are some common problem which may occur such as stretching of the delivery time frames, as well as sub-standard quality output (Willcocks Cullen, 2013). Another issue could be hidden costs: Although outsourcing of the IT functionalities could be cost effective for Aztek Company there may be some hidden costs which are involved especially during the signing of the contract especially if they have been signed across the international boundaries (Magelssen, Sanchez Damanpour, 2015). Another issue is the lack of customer focus: this could occur when the outsourced vendor may be providing services to various organization (Shah Clarke, 2009). In such a situation they may lack the complete focus to the tasks of the organization which they undertake. Outsourcing has been a strategy that an organization contracts to their major functions to the specialized as well as efficient service providers who can ultimately become a valued asset to the business (Shah Clarke, 2009). The development of this innovation has led to huge impacts to the process of the interaction within the financial industry (Magelssen, Sanchez Damanpour, 2015). Many business within the financial industry including Aztek have encountered many shortcomings when it comes to the innovations and adopting the technologies in different parts of their business. Nonetheless, it is also evident to note that information technology has brought many opportunities especially to the financial industry and it has been helping them to be able to expand on their services. Threats of outsourcing the information technology services The security threats usually affect the business in the financial industry such as Aztek by some of the risks and vulnerabilities which the business could encounter. Aztek can improve on their effectiveness of the security of the information technology system through implementation of various mechanism which are aimed to test, monitor and control the risk which could arise from the business (Magelssen, Sanchez Damanpour, 2015). Outsourcing of the information technology functionality could bring forth many benefits, but it can also cause a lot of risk to such business which is involved in sensitive data of the customer. Some of the threats which the organization may encounter would be: One is the issue of the data confidentiality: Data confidentiality is an important aspect to any business and it regards to the protection of the confidential or sensitive data from access of individuals who are not authorized (Gobble, 2013). Aztek organization could face this threat when they fail to protect their information or even when they loss the data. Moreover, through outsourcing the information of the business is exposed to third party especially when they incorporate on their system to the business (Schwalbe, 2014). There may be rogue employees who would want to sell this information to the competitors which leads to the external attacks. There is the issue of the system integrity: This relates to the reliability, accuracy as well as the completeness of the data that the system in the organization are processing, transmitting and storing in their servers (Gobble, 2013). The information should be accurate so that when the customers view it they would satisfied but when there is outsourcing of the IT functionality there is likelihood that it may be misrepresented which become a threat to the business. Another issue is the availability of the system: individuals who access the system which be in view that the system is of high standards and it maintains confidence to them whereby there is an online framework to which they are able to rate on its functionality (Prado, 2011). In the event that the organization is not sure of the eminent quality it thrives from it is could be a security threat since it may be prone to attacks. Another aspect is the protection of the customer through ensuring that the clients are protected well especially by monitoring of the sensitive information of the customers. Aztek organization may face a threat especially when the data of the clients has been exposed through hacking or even an attack to the system (Oshri, Henfridsson Kotlarsky, 2017). This could cause prominent issue especially when these individuals sues the company for exposing their information; the image of the company could also be destroyed. The financial organization some time they may be subjected to the dangers of breach in the security in their system which could cost them a lot especially if the sensitive data of the client has been exposed (Rivard Aubert, 2015). In the case of Aztek Corporation they will implement system for the management of these vulnerabilities and other risks that would pose the danger to the business (Oshri, Henfridsson Kotlarsky, 2017). However, when there is the issue of information risk it could have devastating effect to the organization. The possible exploitation could be as a result of the cybercriminals, use of the information technologies which are outdated and insufficient use of the information technology resources. Consequences of the assessment of outsourcing the information technology services There are numerous risk which Aztek Corporation may encounter from the implementation of the project of outsourcing of the information technology functionalities (Oshri, Henfridsson Kotlarsky, 2017). To be able to have a process which is effective the organization needs to follow the following risk procedure for the management; The assessment of the risk that is likely be encountered by Aztek in the anticipation of the project is given on the sale of one to eight (Schiesser, 2010). One to two is the lowest level of the risk, three to five the medium level and six and eight the highest risks. The risk of the organization are highlighted as below; Probability of risk occurrence Very high Effect Very high Vulnerabilities There could be insufficient standards to implement the outsourcing IT functionality. Poor role of divisions and adoption Difficulties to measure set obligation for set obligations The ownership of resources become hard to decide. Consequences Loss of customer trust. There may be loss of the customer data. Poor delivery of service. Risk High Issue of the system integrity The analysis of this threat issue is examined as follows. issue of the system integrity medium Impact medium Vulnerabilities The system may lack the confidence of the public Consequences There may be lack of trust from the clients. There may be possible loss of the data of the staff. There could be lower levels of service delivery. Risk High Issue is the availability of the system Probability of risk occurrence Medium Impact Very high Vulnerabilities The system may not provide confidence to the customers and employee. Consequences There could be a possible loss of the data. Risk Medium This issues has been analyzed as follows; Probability of risk occurring Low Impact Very high Vulnerabilities Organization may not change their reputation if it is ruined. There could be possible loss of data if the information of the clients has been compromised. Consequences The customer losses data in case their data is breached. There could be bad image of the organization. There could be poor level of service delivery. Risk High Data security The security issues which are associated with the outsourcing of the information technology functionalities are as follows; One of the issue is that the third party to which the services which are outsourced with have an access to the data for Aztek: When Aztek outsources on their Information functionality, they will need to provide access to their data to the service provider (Oshri, Henfridsson Kotlarsky, 2017). This could pose a security risk since the provider may not know the information which is sensitive in nature. Data destruction as well as retention: This is one of the major concern to which the financial institution faces when they outsource some of their functionalities from the third party vendor (Oshri, Henfridsson Kotlarsky, 2017). Some of the third party in their agreement to provide the service it may not incorporate the aspect of what will occur in the event get lost, or on the retention issue. Another issue is the sharing of the resources of the computers to the third party: Aztek should grant permission to the service provider to be able to access their information. These individuals gain entry to the system of the organization to be able to implement on this new system (Pfleeger, 2003). This could pose a security concern if there are rogue employees within the organization or if the information is not handled well. Based on the views in regards to the risks which have been accessed in the research, it is possible to highlight that if Aztek has wide knowledge of the possible risk which may impact on the organization in relation to data security, and the migration of the vital information technology services as well as applications, this organization should be able to fully implement this project (Pfleeger, 2003). The service provider of the IT functionality it intends to outsource should offer a good framework model of the services. This will help in the reduction of the risk are associated to the breach of data or the loss. Conclusion Aztek they would likely encounter efficient as well as reliable management solutions when they implement this project to their organization of outsourcing key IT functionalities. The business has a high chance when it comes to achieving their objectives as well as expounding on their services. This research report has been able to analyze information in regards to the IT functionality of the financial service industry. Further, it has been able to highlights on the current practices which are implemented in Aztek and the impact it would bring to the business. The last part of the report has highlighted on the threats, vulnerabilities as well as the consequences assessment which has been done on the effect of implementing of the project. There is issue of data security which has also been raised and how the organization intends to implement their mechanisms to curb any breach of the information. It is therefore, evident, from the research that information technology could play a major part in the businesses particularly in the financial industry as well as other sectors. However, there are risks which could impact the business and they need to be safeguarded at all cost. References Duhamel, F., Gutirrez-Martnez, I., Macias-Figueroa, J. E., Luna-Reyes, L. Maybe heââ¬â¢ll say heââ¬â¢s ? nally ready to pass me the baton. out a way to ? nalize the data. Who was helping you out, Lynne or Aaron? â⬠¦ Neither? Ugh. All right, all right. Call me when youââ¬â¢re on your way in to the of? ce, OK? See ya. â⬠[Hangs up. ] Damn. This totally messes up my morning. Now Iââ¬â¢ll have to try to hack my way through the spreadsheet before the meeting. I canââ¬â¢t imagine what itââ¬â¢s like taking care of a parent with a terminal illness. How awful. But Lisaââ¬â¢s really slipping. She was such a go-getter and a great operations manager, but her focus has been shot since her mother got sick. Instead, he was starting a ââ¬Å"new mediaâ⬠company. The notion of leaving a great job at TRH and joining his team was the furthest thing from my mind, yet the crazy guy pitched me so hard I couldnââ¬â¢t resist. We will write a custom essay sample on The Nice Guy or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page And he was right. He knew that companies would need a strategic partner that could provide creative ideas in all media ââ¬â print, radio, TV, and ââ¬Å"that information superhighway I keep hearing about. â⬠Daner was going to be that partner. Weââ¬â¢ve had our ups and downs, but itââ¬â¢s been an incredible ride. Up from ? ve people to over a hundred, a client list that boasts some of the biggest companies in the world. And the best part is, itââ¬â¢s just the beginning. Larry is still a tiger, but heââ¬â¢s getting a bit tired and wants to golf. I canââ¬â¢t blame him for that. Itââ¬â¢s de? nitely time for him to retire. Lately I could swear heââ¬â¢s been doing the nudge-nudge, winkwink in my direction. George thinks heââ¬â¢s in the running too, but I think heââ¬â¢ll be cool with reporting to me. Wonder: Once Iââ¬â¢m CEO, should I put George in charge of our European expansion? A footprint in Europe will make us even more indispensable to our clients. It will make us a global leader, not just a domestic shop. George has done well under Larry for the past two years. He was pretty psyched about his promotion to VP of business development. Heââ¬â¢s great on the technical end of things, but he still needs more polish and experience with customers. He is feisty, thoughââ¬âalways willing to take on anything. And heââ¬â¢ll challenge Larry at the drop of a hat. Iââ¬â¢m surprised Larry puts up with it and doesnââ¬â¢t chop him off at the knees. Still, when it comes to people, Larry can really be so hard-nosed. His take- no-prisoners attitude is understandable when bidding on business but not when it comes to people. Like when Larry said Lisaââ¬â¢s become a liability lately; he even hinted about replacing her. Ugh. Lay off Lisa? I can barely think the words, let alone say them to her. Sheââ¬â¢s always been my right arm. She usually knows what Iââ¬â¢m thinking even before I do. Sure, Jim or Andrea could eventually handle the role of operations manager, but thereââ¬â¢s a steep learning curve. Note to self: Have another heart-to-heart with Lisa to discuss the possibility of reducing her workload for a whileââ¬âor maybe see how sheââ¬â¢d feel about taking a leave of absence that would let her focus on her mom. I really want the old Lisa back. 7:38 AM Passing Edgewater Park on the Shoreway This traf? c is ridiculous. If I leave by 6:00, Iââ¬â¢m golden. But if I wait until after 6:30 to wake Sheila and the kids on my way out, Iââ¬â¢m hosed. At least today I get to see an amazing sunrise. Bonus. Man, I could jog faster than this. I remember all those brainstorming jogs with Larry along the lake. It was great to compare notes and talk about the future. For an old guy, he did pretty well ââ¬â up until his heart attack three years ago. I almost lost it last week when he said that he was going to start jogging again ââ¬â and heââ¬â¢s aiming to run the Boston Marathon in April. Please, Larry, stick with golf and sailing! Itââ¬â¢ll be fun to blow him away with the strategy and the numbers. Itââ¬â¢s been a ton of work preparing for this, but now weââ¬â¢re ready. We can mobilize quickly once he gives us the green light. Iââ¬â¢m a little surprised that heââ¬â¢s stayed away from our recent planning sessions. I thought heââ¬â¢d want to provide some feedback and direction. Perhaps itââ¬â¢s his way of pulling back and empowering me before handing me the reins. So, the million-dollar question is: What will he say? I think I know the answer. Heââ¬â¢ll love the bottom lineââ¬âthat he can golf and sail as much as he wants. Heââ¬â¢ll like his new chairman-only role so that he can step away from the dayharvard business review Between you and me, Iââ¬â¢m not totally ruling out compromise, but you need to push back. Remind them how much business weââ¬â¢ve given them over the years, and remember weââ¬â¢re talking about a big chunk of change here. Besides, they should have caught the mistake. You can do this, Justin. Keep me posted. â⬠I canââ¬â¢t believe this. More problems? Abbe Printing had to redo the whole thing because of their mistake, and now that rep Randy is trying to convince Justin that Daner should split the cost of the reprint with them? Forget it! I canââ¬â¢t stand it when people try to take advantage. I grew up in a print shop, for cryinââ¬â¢ out loud. Gimme a break! Justin does have a point, though. The murky print specs Lisa prepared on that job created a bit of a gray area in terms of culpability, but still ââ¬â we give Abbe dozens of jobs a year. Over $2 million in revenues, Iââ¬â¢ll bet! We could be hardnosed on this. Sticking us with a bill like this just doesnââ¬â¢t feel right. Stillâ⬠¦maybe thereââ¬â¢s room for compromise. I know that Randy is a good guy, and besides, theyââ¬â¢ve gone above and beyond the call of duty for us many times. I really donââ¬â¢t want to torch that vendor relationship. a little after the kids go to school.
